After an exhausting and wet day at the theme park it was nice to have a sunny, relaxing day by the hotel pool.

The following day we drove to the south east, Gulf coast of Florida and stayed at Naples.

Naples is a beautiful town for a short stop over. Lovely sandy beaches and loads of great shops for the girls to have some retail therapy!

Right is a view of the Trianon Hotel front garden.

Naples, Florida

One of the manikins in a shop window reminded us of Gwen, Desnée’s mother

This is Palm Cottage built in 1895 and is the oldest house in Naples.  As you can see, everywhere was decorated for Christmas!

From Naples we crossed alligator country to Miami.  En route we stopped off at an information centre where a few alligators were snoozing near the road side. This chap (or lady) was about 8 feet long.

Barbados

We flew from Miami to Barbados, an island Paradise.  Here the temperature was up in the 90’s and alongside the Accra Beach Resort Hotel was a white sandy beach and crystal clear sea.

Barbados is about the size of the Isle of Wight (21mls by 14mls) but has a population of 282,000 people. Consequently, it is quite crowded with shanty homes.

To explore the more remote parts of the island we took a 4x4 safari.  A glorious trip but unfortunately, a little muddy in places.  We had to be towed out of this hole!  A great adventure and good fun.

Here is just one of the spectacular beaches that we visited on the east coast. This is at Bathsheba.

No swimming is allowed here as there are fierce undertows on this Atlantic coast but worth a visit anyway.

Lunch was barbeque style in the grounds of Sunbury Plantation House (an old sugar plantation )

We returned to a cold and wet UK just in time to get ourselves organised for Christmas.

Would we do the same trip again?   You bet we would!
