Another attraction of the Severn Valley is the preserved railway which runs between Bridgnorth and Kidderminster.

It was a rainy day when we visited but the views of the valley were lovely as we steamed down to Kidderminster for lunch.

Another day out took us to Stokesay Castle near Craven Arms.

This is a beautifully preserved medieval, fortified manor house.

Here you see the gatehouse with the timber work so typical of Shropshire.

Behind and to the left is the tower and to the right is the kitchen end of the great hall.

This view is taken from the tower looking back at the gatehouse with the great hall to the extreme left and the local church beyond the castle wall.

The castle wall was originally much higher. In the courtyard (in the foreground) would have been all the activities associated with running a grand manor house. Chicken and livestock would be running around and the various craftsmen going about their work.

The pretty kitchen garden at Stokesay Castle.

We left Shropshire and headed off to Derbyshire and to Rivendale, a campsite near Ashbourne where we had arranged a Gathering for the owners of Carthago motorhomes in the UK.

We had 60 people to entertain for a long weekend.

Click on the link on the right to view pictures of that event.

After the Carthago Gathering was over we stayed on a few extra days and visited some of the attractions of the area.

One visit was to the tram museum at Crich.

They have a fantastic collection of beautifully restored trams from all over Britain.

Unfortunately, our camera had a flat battery when we arrived so this photo is taken from the brochure!

Another day out was to the National Trust, Sudbury Hall.  The house was magnificent and alongside, in the old stables, was the  Museum of Childhood.

The museum had an intriguing collection of toys from all periods and for all ages. There were many items we saw and said “ I had one of those!”

Sudbury Hall had some spectacular trees in the grounds all in their fresh spring foliage

Do you remember when your neighbourhood looked as peaceful as this?

This unmade road ran alongside the grounds and went to a few houses close by.

Just outside of the Sudbury Hall grounds was the local church which had a most impressive east window.

It is time to go home again, catch up with friends and plan our next adventure in Priscilla.
